Cats and high places
Cats and high places
Cats prefer high places such as trees, but why?
Sitting up high gives the cat a better observation point. From a high spot the cat can scan his area and see what all the people and other pets are doing. In the wild, a higher place can be used as hiding spot from which the cat can hunt.
You have probably seen your own cat in a tree already, scanning his area. But have you ever seen your cat climb down again? Cats can’t climb head first down a tree. This is because every claw on a cat’s paw points the same way. To get down from a tree a cat must back down. Complicated for them but fun for us to watch!
